Scan information

This scan is recommended for women who are post menopausal (typically 1 year after your last menstrual period). Whilst completing the scan we carry out an overall wellbeing check on the pelvic area. The scan has been created to help investigate any previous or ongoing health worries such as bloating, cramping, irregular bleeding. We can help detect fibroids or endometrial polyps. The scan can also help monitor the effects of hormone replacement therapy if you are using these.

During the scan you can chose to add an optional Ovarian Cancer Risk blood test at a discounted price of £90. This test measures the amount of a protein called CA-125 (cancer antigen 125) in your blood. High levels of CA125 tumour markers in your blood may be a sign of ovarian cancer. Please make the member of staff at the beginning of your appointment aware if you would like to add a Ovarian Cancer risk blood test to your appointment.
Ovarian Cancer mostly affects women over 50 years old, however it can affect anyone with ovaries at any age. This type of cancer contributes to 5% of cancer related deaths in women. Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late however, as with all cancer, all early diagnosis can mean it is more treatable.

As we allow a full 40 minutes appointment this provides you with opportunity to ask any questions you may have and allows us to support you and provide you with the most accurate advice during the scan.

A qualified Sonographer will complete your scan. Our Sonographers are fully qualified and registered medical professionals with lots of ultrasound experience. Our Sonographers are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and follow the British Medical Ultrasound Society protocols and guidance. If, at any stage, we notice anything unusual during your scan we will explain our findings based on the visual observation at that time. We will advise you on what to do next and refer you to you GP or local hospital unit, we have the contact information and details to provide to you in the clinic.

It is important to note that the added blood test is not a diagnosis and further investigation may be required by your health care provider.

Our Phlebotomy trained professional will take a blood sample from a vein in your arm, using a small needle. This sample will be tested by our authorised partners, TDL. Results from your blood tests can be expected between 5 – 7 working days after the lab receives the sample

Oh Baby LTD will not review your blood test results – we recommend you discuss these results with your healthcare provider or GP. Dependent on the results of your blood test, you may require further testing with a healthcare professional.

Please note women’s health scans may require to be carried out internally.
